HILLSIDE, N.J. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (0-3-2) fell to NJIT (3-1-1), 1-0, on a rainy Friday afternoon, after a goal by the Highlanders put NJIT up early in the game.
"In the second half, we were more ready," said interim head coach
Mira Novak. "We came back and played really well and just couldn't score, so it was just one unfortunate goal at the start that we never recovered from, but the players responded really well."
Jennifer Callaghan scored for the Highlanders, burying a goal from just outside the top of the box in the seventh minute to put NJIT in the lead. Arianna Gerber was credited with the assist.
Five different players attempted shots for UMass Lowell –
Lily Fabian (1),
Emily Nelson (1),
Katelyn Vieira (2),
Rachel Morrier (3) and
Karah Fleet (3).
NJIT tallied four corner kicks to UMass Lowell's 1. The Highlanders' goalkeeper, Amelia Sapirman, made seven saves, while
Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) made four saves in the matchup.
The River Hawks have another shot on Monday as they take on Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.
