River Hawks Take On BU and Central Connecticut Over Holiday Weekend

LOWELL, Mass. – Following an unbeaten opening week, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team faces another pair of New England team's this weekend.
 
After Jakov Basic (Zagreb, Crotia) gave the River Hawks a 1-0 win in the season opener with his perfect free kick, Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) tallied the visitors' lone goal at Quinnipiac in a 1-1 draw.
 
RIVER HAWK LEADERS
Basic and Abramovic have two points, while Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) has the only helper to register his first collegiate point. That trio has combined for 12 of UMass Lowell's 17 shots. Between the pipes, Zach Rowell (Haverhill, Mass.) is 1-0-1 with five saves.
 
PLAYING FAVORITES
For the second consecutive season, the River Hawks were picked as the favorite to win the America East, voted on by the coaches.
 
SCOUTING BU
The Terriers (0-1-1) enter the matchup looking for their first win on the new campaign after conceding two leads in a 3-3 tie against Boston College. Matt McDonnell has scored three goals to pace the offense, while Toti Knutsson has delievered a pair of assists. In net, the duo of Mike Bernardi and William Bonnelyche have split duty, making four and five saves respectively.
 
Last season, UMass Lowell defeated BU, 2-0, to improve to 2-4 all-time.
 
SCOUTING CCSU
The Blue Devils (0-1) come to Lowell following their 2-1 defeat against Seton Hall on Aug 28. Aidan O'Brien has the team's only goal, from a Sebastian Calderon assist. Carson D'Ambrosio make eight saves in the effort.
 
Following the River Hawks' 2-1 overtime win in 2017, UMass Lowell is now 3-4 all-time against CCSU.
 
HOME, SWEET HOME
Over the last 17 games at Cushing Field, the hosts are 14-1-3 dating back to 2016. The River Hawks are 23-8-4 in the Mill City since 2014.
