SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team was defeated by Bryant on Wednesday afternoon at Chace Athletic Center in non-conference play. The set scores were 18-25, 18-25 and 18-25.
The River Hawks drop to 0-4 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-1. 
"We still have a lot to work on and of course areas where we can improve, but I was pleased with the adjustments made this week in practice," said Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "Even though it was a short week the concepts and skills we worked on were much improved.  We are excited to get back in the gym and prepare for Providence."
Mad Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), 
Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.), 
Erica Cappellino (Penfield, N.Y.) and 
Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) each recorded a team-high four kills in the losing effort. Bilyeu also added a career and team-high eight digs, while Cappellino owned a team-high .400 hitting percentage. 
Freshman defensive specialist 
Aleyna Kennel (Monument, Colo.) tallied seven digs in a strong defensive effort. 
The River Hawks tallied a team-best 11 kills in the second set of the match. 
Caroline Kennedy amassed a game-high 10 kills in the win for Bryant. 
UMass Lowell returns to action in the opening match of the Friar Classic on Friday, August 31st against host Providence College. Match time from Alumni Hall is 7 p.m.
