River Hawks Battle to Double Overtime Tie Against Colgate

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (0-2-1) fought tough against Colgate (0-1-1) on Thursday evening at Cushing Field, ending in a 0-0 double overtime tie.

"I think tonight was all about bouncing back after the last game," interim head coach Mira Novak. "I was really looking for a response from the players – how we were going to respond to adversity – so I think they responded really well today."

The Basics
  • For the second-straight year, UMass Lowell opened its home slate with a double overtime tie.
  • The River Hawks (4 shots on goal) and Raiders (5 shots on goal) both generated scoring chances, but neither team was able to capitalize.
  • Redshirt sophomore Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) had a standout performance, notching five saves for a perfect game.

Quick Hitters
  • Halle Anderson (Stonington, Conn.), Kristina Bartsch (Pulheim, Germany) and Huff each made their first career starts.
  • Rachel Morrier tallied at least four shots for the second time this season.
  • UMass Lowell staved off three corners within three minutes in the first half, capped off by a big save by Huff after a Dom DeMarco corner.
  • Colgate took 12 shots to UMass Lowell's eight.

The River Hawks play at home again on Sunday, taking on St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m.
