ALBANY, N.Y. -- Senior midfielder
Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) tied a career-high with five goals to pace the No. 4 seeded UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team in a 15-10 loss to top seed and No. 5 ranked UAlbany in the America East semifinals on Thursday night at Casey Stadium.
The River Hawks end their season at 8-8 overall, while the Great Danes improve to 13-2 overall and advance to the America East Championship Game. UMass Lowell finishes with a Div. I record eight victories, matching their win total from the previous two seasons combined.
"Going into the game we tried take away their transition and I thought we did that until the fourth quarter," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "That's one thing we were trying to eliminate, because they are so good at transition. Our senior class, I am so proud of those guys, I thought the guys fought really hard today. It was just a tremendous effort putting pressure on them."
Freshman attackman
Harry Morrill (Hyde Park, Mass.) recorded his first career hat trick in the losing effort. Phillips finished the night with a team-high 10 shots and seven shots on goal. Phillips finished his senior season with a career-high and team best 30 goals.
The River Hawks stormed out to an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter and held a 7-5 lead at halftime against UAlbany. The Great Danes scored 10 goals in the second half to secure the victory.
Freshman goalie
Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) recorded 15 saves in his 14th consecutive start to end the season.
