VESTAL, N.Y. –
The UMass Lowell softball team (21-26) will have to wait one more day for their first chance at an America East Championship. The title game between the No. 2 seeded River Hawks and the No. 1 UAlbany Great Danes (30-14) that was originally slated for 12 p.m. today, Saturday, May 12, has been postponed to tomorrow, Sunday, May 13, at 11 a.m. due to rain in the area.

The two teams have already met once at the conference tournament, as UMass Lowell battled to an extra-innings, 5-2 victory in the winners' bracket final on May 11 to secure a spot in the title game. The Great Danes, who moved to the losers' bracket final, eliminated No. 3 Stony Brook to earn a rematch with the River Hawks.

Due to the double elimination format of the tournament, if UAlbany wins the 11 a.m. game on Sunday, it would force an if necessary game at 1:30 p.m. to determine the ultimate winner. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

This River Hawks have already made history this week, as their first round victory against Stony Brook on May 10 marked the first ever Division I post-season win for any women's team at UMass Lowell. The squad will now look to capture the first America East Conference title on the women's side for the university.
