River Hawks travel to No. 15 Vermont on Saturday in America East action

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell owns a 5-5 overall record (2-1 AE), after a 10-7 comeback win at home against UMBC in America East play last Saturday at home, setting a Div. I wins record in the process and set an America East wins record as well. UMass Lowell owns a 3-2 road record so far this season. The River Hawks have scored 10+ goals in six of 10 games this season.

Matt Balter (Albany, N.Y.) leads the team with 19 goals, while Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) is first on the team with 38 points and 23 assists. Senior defender Will Puduski (Westford, Mass.) leads the team with 48 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) ranks second on the team with 18 goals, while Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) is close in third with 17 tallies. 

UMass Lowell has a team ranks second among America East teams with 36.4 shots and 24.5 shots on goal so far this season. The River Hawks also rank second in the conference with 6.8 assists per contest. The River Hawks lead America East with 7.9 caused turnovers per game and also rank second in America East with 34.2 ground balls per contest. 

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS: No. 15/16 ranked Vermont owns a 9-1 overall record (2-1 AE) after an 11-7 win at Hartford last Saturday. The Catamounts are 2-0 so far at home this season. Senior midfielder Ian MacKay leads the team with 27 goals and 39 points, after notching six goals at Hartford last weekend. 

LAST TIME OUT: Senior attackman Sean Tyrrell posted a career-high seven points and tied a career-high with four goals to propel the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 10-7 comeback win against UMBC last Saturday. UMass Lowell tallied six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to complete to comeback. Junior midfielder Austin Lane scored his 16th of the season to give the River Hawks the lead for good with 1:55 to play in the final quarter. UMass Lowell added two more goal in the final 90 seconds to seal the victory. Jon Phillips finished the day with four points (2g,2a), while Lane notched three points (2g,1a) in the victory. Freshman goalie Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) stopped 20 shots in his eighth consecutive start for the River Hawks, while Tommy Lingner managed five saves for UMBC in the losing effort. Braun's 20 saves were one short of tying his school record, which he previously set twice this season. Senior Will Puduski (Westford, Mass.) led the way again on defense for the River Hawks with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. The River Hawks owned an 11-5 shot advantage in the fourth quarter vs. the Retrievers.

BRAUN LEADS THE NATION IN SAVE PER GAME: Freshman goalie Hunter Braun owns a 5-4 record on the season with a 10.68 GAA and a .588 save percentage with 130 saves in eight starts for the River Hawks in his freshman campaign. His 14.4 saves per game leads the nation and his 130 saves is most of any America East goalie this season. 

BRAUN AND TYRRELL EARN AMERICA EAST HONORS: Senior attackman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) and freshman goalie Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) of the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team were named America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, by the conference office on Monday morning. Tyrrell established a new career-high with seven points and tied a career-high with four goals in the 10-7 comeback win vs. UMBC at Cushing Field Complex on Saturday afternoon. He also added three assists with five shots on goal and two ground balls in the River Hawks' fifth victory of the season. He ranks first on the team with 38 points and 23 assists, while his 15 goals rank fourth on the team. 

"Hunter is the anchor of our defense and he has great instincts with the ball in the clearing game," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Ed Stephenson. "UMBC had really long offensive possessions and I thought Sean made the most of his opportunities. Sean did a good job moving without the ball and finding creases in the defense."

Braun made 20 saves in the victory against UMBC on Saturday, posting seven saves in each of the second and third quarters. It marked his fourth 20+ save performance of the season, including his third consecutive game with 20 or more stops. His 20 saves was one short of his own school record of 21, which he set each of the previous two contests.

EXTRA MAN OPPORTUNITIES: The River Hawks lead America East with a 52.9% EMO conversion rate (9 for 17), which ranks seventh among NCAA Div. I teams. Jon Phillips has scored six of the nine EMO goals for the River Hawks this season through eight contests.  

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Sean Tyrrell's 2.3 assists per game ranks third in America East and his 3.8 points per game ranks fifth in the conference. Will Puduski's 1.8 caused turnovers per game leads the league and his 4.8 ground balls per game ranks third best in America East.
