LOWELL, Mass. – After an hour and 24 minute rain delay, the UMass Lowell softball team's series finale against Stony Brook (19-19, 7-6 AE) was called due to unplayable field conditions.
The River Hawks remain at the top of the America East standings with a 12-2 record in league play and a 19-22 overall record.
The team celebrated Senior Day with a special pre-game ceremony for five graduating team members.
Madison Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.),
Vanessa Cooper (Pleasant Gap, Pa.),
Colleen Frank (Berkeley Heights, N.J.),
Samantha McQueen (Ewing, N.J.) and
Kate Mims (West Chester, Pa.) were all honored for their contributions to the program.
The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the first with a RBI single up the middle, although the River Hawks quickly retaliated in the home half of the inning with a lead-off home run by Alcorn and a RBI single by Cooper, giving the squad a 2-1 edge through one complete.
The game went into a rain delay in the top of the second with one out, and although there were attempts to make the field playable when the weather cleared, the game was unable to be resumed.
The River Hawks will now play their final home game of the season on Tuesday, May 1 when they host Boston College beginning at 4 p.m.
