LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team suffered a 9-4 setback at the hand of Boston College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at LeLacheur Park.
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) gave the River Hawks (17-20) a quick 1-0 in the bottom of the first with his 11th home run of the season, tying the program's DI single-season record. Freshman
Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J.) drove in two of the host's runs, the first multi-RBI game of his career.
The Eagles (14-26) equalized in the second on a RBI double, and they plated five more in the fifth inning to open a 6-1 buffer. In the decisive frame, Boston College delivered three run scoring singles, including a two RBI knock from Jake Palomaki.
Behind three hits in the home half of the fifth, UMass Lowell scored three times to get back within two runs. Three of the first four batters reached and with the bases loaded, Martin picked up his two RBI with his single through the right side. The next batter,

Joey Castellanos (Nutley, N.J.) with his single to right.
Boston College plated the contest's final runs with three in the sixth on three hits and one miscue in the field. Zach Stromberg picked up his second win of the year with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The River Hawks head to Connecticut for an America East series that pits the top two teams in the standings against each other, as they take on Hartford for three games.
