LOWELL, Mass. – Senior midfielder
Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) notched his sixth career hat trick to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 9-8 double overtime victory against Dartmouth in non-conference play on Tuesday night at Cushing Field Complex.
UMass Lowell improves to 6-6 overall with the victory, while the Big Green drop to 2-8 overall with the loss. The River Hawks own a 2-1 record in overtime contests this season.
"It was one of those games, we had a hard time getting some separation, give them credit, it was a good ground ball battle today with both teams," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "I give our guys credit for just pushing through two overtimes. I though our goalie played outstanding, he did a great job at anchoring the defense today."
Senior attackman
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) notched his 18
th goal of the season with 2:09 to play in the extra frame to give the River Hawks their sixth win of the season.
Klingsporn amassed a game-high 10 shots and five shots on goal in the victory.
The River Hawks held 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 5-2 lead against Dartmouth at halftime.
Freshman
Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) made his 10
th consecutive start, posting 17 saves, which included five saves in the second quarter. Dartmouth's Alex Burnley notched 14 stops on the night in net for the Big Green.
The River Hawks went 2-for-4 on man up opportunities and outshot Dartmouth. Sophomore
Brett Dattilo (Derry, N.H.) notched a team-high seven ground balls and nine faceoff wins for UMass Lowell, while senior
Will Puduski (Westford, Mass.) totaled ground balls and a game-high four caused turnovers.
The River Hawks return to action in America East play on Saturday, April 14
th vs. Hartford. Game time from Cushing Field Complex is 7:30 p.m.
