River Hawks Fall 15-6 at Bryant on Wednesday Afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-5) fell 15-6 on the road to Bryant (4-3) on Wednesday afternoon. Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored four goals while Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) and Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) combined to stop five shots.

"I think it was a tale of two halves," commented Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "We did well and matched Bryant's intensity and grit in the first half. Bryant made some fantastic adjustments in the second half that helped them to an early run that we were unable to keep up with. This is a game that will haunt us for a bit, but we expect it to prepare us for some equally tough conference opponents."

Kendyl Finelli found Taylor Sokol alone in front of the net late in the shot clock as she buried the pass to give the River Hawks their first goal of the game and open the scoring just two minutes into the game.

Bryant tied the game up at 27:00 in the first half before Finelli found Sokol again to almost four minutes later to give UMass Lowell a 2-1 lead.

Both squads traded goals that included Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) tallying her first goal of the afternoon and gave the team in blue a 3-2 lead with 21:58 on the clock.

Bryant tallied the next two goals of the contest to take their first lead of the game at 4-3 with just under eight remaining in the first half.

The score remained in favor of Bryant at the half, 4-3, as both sides couldn't find the back of the net the remaining eight minutes of the half.

Bryant extended their lead to six early in the second half after scoring five times in the first seven minutes of the second.

Sokol tallied her third of the game at 20:51 to end the Bulldogs 5-0 run and cut the deficit to five.

Bryant tallied one two minutes later to regain their six goal lead.

Finelli cut it back to five at 10-5 with 15:54 remaining in the second after taking a pass from Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) and sneaking it past the Bryant keeper.

After the Bulldogs tallied two more to take a 12-5 lead into the final 13 minutes of play, Sokol recorded her fourth of the game to cut the deficit to six with 12 minutes remaining.

The Bulldogs scored the final three goals of the game to make the final score 15-6.

Up next, the River Hawks get ready for No. 1 Stony Brook at Wicked Blue Field on Saturday, March 24 with opening draw scheduled for 12 p.m.
