LOWELL, Mass. -- After 17 non-conference contests to open the season, the UMass Lowell baseball team gets America East play underway with a three-game series against the UAlbany Great Danes.

This set series was supposed to be the River Hawks' home opener, but due to the conditions at LeLacheur Park, the set has been moved to Bill Bek Field on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. 

UMass Lowell ended its Spring Break trip with a 4-3 record, capped off by a dramatic 7-6 win at James Madison, in which Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit the go-ahead two-run home run with two outs and two strikes in the top of the ninth inning.

Leading the Flock
With his hot opening month, Olive sits atop the lineup with his .387 average, 24 hits, six home runs, six doubles and second with 16 RBI. Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) is batting .348 with five doubles and five stolen bases, while Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) is on top with 18 RBI. On the mound, Dan Cunico (Sandyston, N.J.) is posting a 3.38 ERA and is one of five pitchers with a win on the year. The top three strikeout leaders are Andrew Ryan (27), Jack Riley (26) and Henry Funaro (19). Nick Rand (Hyde Park, N.Y.) has picked up three saves, with Connor Metelski (Wall Township, N.J.) adding a third. The River Hawks are batting .246 as a team, with a 6.47 ERA.

Chelmsford Slugger
With his team leading .774 slugging percentage, Olive has climbed up the national rankings as he currently sits in 18th. He remains the highest ranked America East player, and is now the leader among New England schools as well. The junior is second in America East in batting average and hits, while he leads the conference in homers, as well. 

Multitasking
The River Hawks have had 10 players record a total of 35 multi-hit games, as Olive leads the way with eight. The lineup has produced 18 multi-RBI games, with Olive, Maiola and Climo pacing the team with four apiece.

Scouting UAlbany
The Great Danes (8-5) have won three straight and five out of their last seven games, outscoring opponents 20-11 in their streak. Connor Powers is pacing the lineup with his .304 average, 14 hits, four home runs and 13 RBI. Ryan Hernandez has added four doubles, and Marc Wangenstein has swiped five bases. On the mound, John Clayton has a 3.05 ERA and Dominic Savino has recorded 27 strikeouts. UAbany is batting .228 and has a 4.94 team ERA.

UAlbany has taken 10 of 18 meetings, but UMass Lowell has won two out of the last three, as the teams have alternated wins and losses since April 5, 2014.

In the River Hawks 12-6 win in the season's second game, Cam Climo drove in five RBI. The big hit was a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put UMass Lowell on top, 6-5.
