River Hawks entertain Monmouth for home opener on Saturday

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell owns a 1-2 record so far this season, coming off a 14-13 overtime loss at Siena last Saturday. All three of the River Hawks' contests this season have been one goal decisions. Junior attackman Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) scored a career-high four goals and five points in the loss for UMass Lowell at Siena. UMass Lowell held a 9-7 lead at halftime against the Saints, which included a hat trick from Lane and two goals from senior Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) and senior attackman Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.). Senior attackman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) also had a solid day with four points (1g,3a) and six shots on goal. Phillips finished the day with three points (2g,1a) and five shots.  The River Hawks finished the game 2-for-2 in man up opportunities.  Freshman Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) made a school-record 21 saves in his first collegiate start for the River Hawks, which included eight saves in the second quarter. 

Phillips and Lane lead the River Hawks' roster with seven goals apiece. Phillips has seven points and five goals in his last two games for UMass Lowell.

Tyrrell's 4.0 points per game is fourth among America East players, while Klingsporn's eight shots per game is also fourth best among AE players. Will Puduski's (Westford, Mass.) 4.33 ground balls per game is third best in the conference. UMass Lowell ranks second among AE team in both shots per game (41.3) and shots on goal per game (25.7). 

SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Monmouth owns a 1-2 overall record to start the season, after a 15-11 loss to Delaware at home last Saturday. Monmouth scored seven goals in the fourth quarter in the loss to the Blue Hens. Bryce Wasserman leads the team with 12 points and seven goals on the season. He recorded two goals in the loss to Delaware last weekend. 

TYRRELL MAKING THE MOST OF HIS SENIOR YEAR: Sean Tyrrell has posted a team-high 12 points so far this year in three games. He has posted seven points (2g,5a) in the last two games after posting a five-point (1g,4a) in the season opening win at Quinipiac.
