WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UMass Lowell baseball fell 8-1 to Wake Forest in the opening game of the three-game series on Friday night.
The River Hawks (2-6) lone run came in the fifth inning, which began with a
Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) leadoff walk. After an
Austin Young (Millbury, Mass.) single, Young came around to score on a fielder's choice.
Joey Castellanos (Nutley, N.J.) picked up the other hit for the visitors, while M. Young drew three walks on the night.
Wake Forest (4-6) took a 3-0 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, and added single runs in the third and fifth, before scoring three in the eighth.
Game two is set for tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) will take the hill for UMass Lowell.
