River Hawks host UMass Wednesday; open AE play at Binghamton on Saturday

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell owns a 3-3 overall through six games so far this season, after two victories last week at Providence (12-11) and against Manhattan (11-9). The River Hawks are 1-1 at home so far this season at Cushing Field Complex. The win against the Jaspers marked their first home victory of the season for the River Hawks. All three losses this season have been one-goal contests for UMass Lowell.

Senior midfielder Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) scored a career-high six points and five goals in the win for UMass Lowell. Senior attackman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) notched a game-high four assists for the River Hawks. Freshman midfielder Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) notched his first career goal as a River Hawk with less than six minutes left in the second frame. With 43 seconds left in the first half, Phillips notched his eighth career hat trick. Senior midfielder Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) also added two goals in the first half for UMass Lowell. Freshman Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) made his fourth consecutive start for the River Hawks, posting 12 saves. Sophomore faceoff midfielder Brett Dattilo (Derry, N.H.) won 17-of-24 draws (71%) in the contest vs. the Jaspers. UMass Lowell outshot Manhattan, 28-12 to the first half on Saturday afternoon. 

Phillips leads the team with 13 goals, while Tyrrell has the team lead with 22 points and 15 assists so far this year. 

UMass Lowell as a team ranks second in America East in both shots per game (40.17) and shots on goal per game (25.17). The River Hawks' 11.5 saves per game leads all America East schools and their 35.17 ground balls per contest is second best in the league.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN: Massachusetts enters Wednesday's game with a 2-4 overall mark, after coming off a 17-3 win against NJIT on Saturday at home. The Minutemen are 0-1 on the road so far this season, which was a 18-6 loss in the season opener at Army on February 10th. Attackman Buddy Carr had a game-high six goals for the Minutemen and Jesse Leung added four goals. Chris Connolly and Jeff Trainor each notched four assists apiece in the victory. Carr leads the team with 23 points (14g,9a). 

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS: Binghamton is 1-6 overall this season, which includes a 1-1 home record. The Bearcats defeated Delaware, 8-7 on Saturday in their most recent contest. ean Gilroy netted the hat trick for Binghamton, while Kevin Carbone totaled 14 saves in the victory. Stephen Petrelli leads the team with 15 points and 12 goals so far through seven games. 

EXTRA MAN OPPORTUNITIES: The River Hawks are tied with Maryland for the best conversion rate in the Div. I at 66.7%. UMass Lowell has converted on 8-of-12 chances so far this year. They had two EMO goals in each of the first three games of the year and have notched one in each of the last two victories. Six of Jon Phillips team-leading 13 goals have come via the EMO. 

NEILA RANKED: For the first time in school history, the River Hawks are ranked in the Div. I NEILA poll this week with a No. 8 ranking, one spot behind UMass, who they enterain on Wednesday afternoon at Cushing Field Complex. 

PHILLIPS ON FIRE: Phillips has four multi-goal games to his credit so far this season, his 24 shots on goal ranks second on the River Hawks roster. 

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Sean Tyrrell's 2.5 assists per game is second best in America East. Hunter Braun's 10.4 saves per game is second most among AE goalies. Senior Will Puduski's (Westford, Mass.) 5.0 ground balls per contest is ranks third in the conference and his 1.5 caused turnovers per game is fourth best among AE players.
