River Hawks Continue Road Swing With Series at Wake Forest

LOWELL, Mass. -- Entering the third weekend of the season, the UMass Lowell baseball team wraps up the first half of its 18-game road swing with a three-game series at ACC foe Wake Forest. 

UMass Lowell has lost four straight, including three games at No. 13 Vanderbilt last weekend. 

Leading the Flock
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) paces the offense with nine RBI, while Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) have eight hits apiece. Olive also paces the lineup with his .296 average. Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) has two homers, and Maiola has swiped two bases, as well. On the mound, Henry Funaro (Lowell, Mass.) and Brian Dolan (Lowell, Mass.) each have a win, with Jack Riley (Worcester, Mass.) atop the staff with 12 strikeouts. The River Hawks are batting .233 as a team, with a 8.16 ERA.

ACC Advantage
Last season, the River Hawks picked up their first win over an ACC team in program history, knocking off Notre Dame 8-0.

Scouting Wake Forest
The Deamon Deacons (3-6) have lost five of their last six contests, including an 11-5 setback to UNCG on Feb. 28. The offense is led by Shane Muntz's .290 average and Jake Mueller's 11 hits. Patrick Frick has connected on two of Wake's six homers, and has driven in nine. The pitching staff is led by Sunday's starter Colie Puluse's two wins and 1.93 ERA, while Ryan Supple has struck out 16 in 7.1 innings. The Deamon Deacons have a team average of .231 and an ERA of 3.46.

Five Spot
In the River Hawks 12-6 win in the season's second game, Cam Climo drove in five RBI. The big hit was a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put UMass Lowell on top, 6-5.
