NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UMass Lowell baseball team suffered an 9-2 setback in the series finale at No. 13 Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) provided the offense for the River Hawks (2-5) with a two-run single in the opening inning, while
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up a pair of hits.
A two-out rally saw UMass Lowell take the early lead, as Young delivered his hit to right that scored
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) and Olive.
Passatempo sparked the rally by drawing a walk, and Olive advanced him to second with a single before
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) was hit to load the bases.
The Commodores (7-1) used a two-out rally of their own, stringing together three straight hits, including a triple, in the second to knot the score at 2-2. Vanderbilt took control with three runs in each the sixth and seventh innings, including a three-run home run in the sixth.
The River Hawks head to Wake Forest for a three-game set with the Demon Deacons from March 2-4.
