LOWELL, Mass. -- After a two-win opening weekend, the UMass Lowell baseball team looks to upend a national powerhouse, as the River Hawks head to the Music City for a three-game set against No. 13 Vanderbilt.

UMass Lowell scored 22 runs and connected on four home runs in the season's first weekend, as the pitching staff recorded 34 strikeouts. In the team's 2-1 win against Morehead State on February 17, the River Hawks came within one strike of the program's seventh no-hitter. 

Leading the Flock
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) paces the offense with five hits and eight RBI, while Mark Tumosa (Willington, Conn.) and John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) are batting .429. Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) has two homers, and Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) has swiped two bases. On the mound, Henry Funaro (Lowell, Mass.) and Brian Dolan (Lowell, Mass.) each have a win, with Funaro atop the staff with six strikeouts. The River Hawks are batting .257 as a team, with a 4.17 ERA.

Not Bad, Rook
Fresh off his first collegiate debut in which he pitched five no-hit innings with six strikeouts, Henry Funaro was named the America East Rookie of the Week. The righty looks to continue his success, as he is slated to start on Sunday.

Scouting Vanderbilt
The No. 13 Commodores (4-1) have rattled off three straight wins, outscoring opponents 31-4 in the process. Pat DeMarco has recorded 12 hits in 21 at bats for his .571 average, and also leads the team with four two-baggers. Philip Clarke has only started two games but paces the offense with his nine RBI. No player has connected on more than one home run, but three plays have three or more stolen bases. On the mound, Mason Hickman has recorded seven strikeouts and has one of the team's four wins. Vanderbilt is batting .330 and the staff has posted a 1.80 ERA.

Five Spot
In the River Hawks 12-6 win in the season's second game, Cam Climo drove in five RBI. The big hit was a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put UMass Lowell on top, 6-5.
