VESTAL, N.Y. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team was defeated at Binghamton, 3-0 on Friday night in America East action at West Gym. The set scores were 21-25, 22-25 and 24-26.

The River Hawks drop to 1-16 overall (0-4 AE), while the Bearcats improve to 4-12 overall (2-1 AE) with the victory.

"The team fought hard throughout the match and showed improvements in serve receive and side-out percentage," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "However, we need to focus on execution, making better decisions, and trusting the process from start to finish.  If we can do that it will be a good match on Sunday."

Freshman outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) registered a team-high nine kills and an impressive .412 hitting percentage, which was best on the UMass Lowell roster. Senior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi and junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucia, Fla.) each chipped in with eight kills apiece for the River Hawks in the losing effort. Adeniyi added an impressive .316 hitting percentage, while Bell also added six digs on defense.

Senior libero Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) amassed a match-high 12 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Aleyna Kennel (Monument, Colo.) posted 10 digs in the strong defense effort for the River Hawks.

Sophomore middle blocker Jessica Jubb (Millis, Mass.) tallied four total blocks, three kills and two services aces, doing a little bit of everything in the match.

Senior outside hitter Erica Cappellino's (Penfield, N.Y.) kill tied the third set at 24-24, but they could not hold on against the Bearcats. Jubb's service aces gave the River Hawks a 21-18 lead in the opening frame vs. Binghamton, but the Bearcats rattled off three straight kills to tie the score at 21-21 and they never looked back.

Gaby Alicea recorded a match-high 15 kills in the victory for Binghamton, while Erin Shultz totaled 10 kills and nine digs in a solid all-around match for the Bearcats.

The River Hawks hit at a .226 clip in the opening frame and then followed that up with 13 kills and a team-best .257 hitting percentage in the second set. UMass Lowell then proceeded with a team-best 18 kills in the final frame.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Sunday, October 7th at UMBC in America East play. Match time from the UMBC Event Center is 1 p.m in Catonsville, Md.
