River Hawks Trek To Baltimore for Matchup with UMBC

LOWELL, Mass. – Following the first time losing back-to-back games in 2018, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team looks to rebound against the UMBC Retrievers on Saturday night.

The River Hawks have picked up wins in the last two matchups against UMBC, and are outscoring the Retrievers 7-2, including a 4-0 win in Baltimore in 2016. 

RIVER HAWK LEADERS
Stanley Alves (Minas Gerais, Brazil) still paces the team with four scores and with three game-winning goals, and sits tied with Roko Prsa (3g, 3a) with nine points. Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) has scored twice in the last three games to sit at six points, with a pair of helpers. Between the pipes, Zach Rowell (Haverhill, Mass.) is 5-1-2 with 17 saves and a 0.50 GAA, in addition to four shutouts, while Patrik Gujic (Bjelovar, Croatia) is 1-2-0 with 15 saves and a 1.43 GAA.
 
SOARING IN THE NATION
- The River Hawks rank 32nd in the NCAA with a 0.78 GAA
- Rowell is seventh with a 0.50 GAA to lead the America East with four shutouts as well
- Alves' three game-winning goals sit tied for ninth and is tied atop the conference

FIRST GOAL
The defeat against the Crusaders marked the first loss for the River Hawks since September 13, 2015 when UMass Lowell scores first, adding the first blemish to a 29-0-3 record.

I LIKE MY SHEETS CLEAN
Stanford's lone goal snapped UMass Lowell's program record consecutive shutout minutes mark at 403:33. 

SCOUTING UMBC
- The Retrievers enter the matchup at 4-4-1 and 0-2-0 in America East play
- UMBC has yet to score in conference play, following 1-0 and 3-0 losses to UNH and Vermont, respectively.
- Averaging 1.22 goals per game, the Retrievers have been shutout four times this season
- Cesare Marconi leads the lineup with three goals and three assists
- In net, Ciaran O'Loughlin has made eight starts and has a 1.42 GAA with 34 saves
- UMBC holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series

ON THE ROAD, AGAIN
A season after going 3-6-0 away from Lowell, the River Hawks are 2-2-2 in the road blues so far in the young 2018. Including this weekend, UMass Lowell has two road games remaining. 

HAWK THE VOTE
UMass Lowell has been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll for 22 weeks since 2016.

HOME, SWEET HOME
Over the last 22 games at Cushing Field, the hosts are 17-2-3 dating back to 2016. The River Hawks are 26-9-4 in the Mill City since 2014.

Before the season, Basic was named as one of 32 players on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watchlist. The MAC Hermann in college soccer's most prestigious individual award.

Kauzlaric and Gujic were named AE Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week (9.24) ... coming off his first career shutout, Rowell was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week (8.20).

PLAYING FAVORITES
For the second consecutive season, the River Hawks were picked as the favorite to win the America East, voted on by the coaches.
