River Hawks travel over the weekend for a pair of America East matches

UMass Lowell travels to Hartford Friday and then to Stony Brook on Sunday

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell Lowell enters the weekend with a 3-18 overall record (1-6 AE) after the River Hawks were defeated at home by New Hampshire (3-0) last Friday night at Costello Athletic Center. Junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) leads the team with 157 kills and 2.24 kills per set for the River Hawks. Bell has tallied 10+ kills in six matches this season. Redshirt sophomore setter Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) has amassed 41 kills in her last 16 sets of the River Hawks, averaging 2.56 kills per set during that span.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Hartford owns a 9-10 overall record (2-5 AE) heading into Friday night's match with the Hawks owning a 2-3 record in their last five matches, including a 3-0 loss at Stony Brook last Thursday night. Jenna Bridges led Hartford with 13 kills in the losing effort and she leads the team this season with 274 kills and her 4.15 kills per set leads the conference. Hartford owns a 5-4 record at home in nine matches so far in 2018, which includes a 1-3 record in AE contests in West Hartford. The Hawks lead the conference with a .253 team hitting percentage.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. HARTFORD: The River Hawks lost to Hartford (3-0) in the first meeting of the season series on September 30th at Costello Athletic Center. the set scores were 19-25, 21-25 and 21-25. Madi Bell recorded a team-high 11 kills in the losing effort, while Hartford's Jenna Bridges amassed a match-high 16 kills. UMass Lowell has beat Hartford once since joining America East, a 3-2 win on Oct. 22, 2016. Then freshman Madi Bell had a team-best 17 kills in that victory for the River Hawks.

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES: Stony Brook is the only undefeated team left in America East with a 7-0 record in league play (14-8 overall). The Seawolves have won 10 straight matches coming into the weekend with their last loss coming on September 14th at Bryant. Stony Brook owns a 6-2 home record this season. Stony Brook's 13.04 kills per set leads the conference. McKyla Brooks leads the team with 238 kills on the season. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. STONY BROOK: The River Hawks fell to Stony Brook (3-0) in the first meeting of the season series on Friday, September 28th at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores were 10-25, 11-25 and 17-25. UMass Lowell's lone win against Stony Brook in the all-time series came on November 14, 2015 in a 3-2 victory at Costello Athletic Center. The win marked the school's all-time first in America East play.

LAST TIME OUT: Despite strong overall performances by McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.), Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) and Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), the UMass Lowell volleyball team (3-18, 1-6 AE) dropped a match to New Hampshire (9-12, 5-2 AE) in three sets on Friday evening at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20. Randolph tallied six kills and 20 assists, Bova added 16 assists and 10 digs, and Bell notched 10 digs and 11 kills with a .370 attacking percentage. Randolph also had a hand in five blocks for UMass Lowell. The first set featured back-and-forth scoring, with the River Hawks nearly stealing the win. Bell secured a kill to bring the score to 23-24, but the Wildcats won the set after a ball handling error by UMass Lowell. The second set featured a four-point scoring run by the River Hawks, when the team came from down 5-7 to up 9-7. The Wildcats came back and earned a few scoring runs of their own, though, and held on for the set two victory. In the third set, UMass Lowell remained steadfast with UNH in control of match point with kills by Morgan Given (Orlando, Fla.) and Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.), but the Wildcats managed to secure the win. UMass Lowell held the clear edge in blocks, with 15 blocks to UNH's four. Bell, Given, Aleyna Kennel (Monument, Colo.) and Erica Cappellino (Penfield, N.Y.) each tallied service aces for the River Hawks.

VISVARDIS HITS 1,500 DIG MARK: Visvardis has recorded 1,546 digs in her 3+ years career since joining the River Hawks in 2015 and surpassed the 1,500 dig plateau on Friday, Oct. 12th vs. UAlbany, becoming the fourth player in school history to accomplish the feat. She ranks tied for 40th among active NCAA players. Visvardis ranks third on the all-time school digs list, as she passed Erin Miller this past weekend in the UNH match. She needs 110 digs to move into a tie for second place on the all-time school digs list, along with Julie Handy (2002-05; 1,656 digs). Visvardis' 3.74 digs per set is sixth best among America East players. She has amassed 277 digs in 74 sets this season, which is fifth among league players. She has registered 10+ digs in 15 of 21 matches and she totaled a season-high 30 digs at UMBC, which were three short of tying a career-high.

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Sophomore middle blocker Jess Jubb's (Millis, Mass.) 0.90 blocks per set ranks third among America East players. Freshman defensive specialist Aleyna Kennels (Monument, Colo.) 0.24 service aces per game ranks tied for eighth among conference players. 

ON TELEVISION: The final regular-season home match on Sunday, November 4th against Binghamton on Senior Day will be televised live on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.
