BOSTON, Mass. – Jenna Berger (Waterloo, Ontario) of the UMass Lowell field hockey team was named America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The freshman scored both goals for the River Hawks in an exciting, 2-1 win at conference rival New Hampshire on October 19. The performance marked the first multiple-goal game of her young career.
She tallied UMass Lowell's first goal against the Wildcats in the 24th minute, when she posted up right in front of the cage and deflected a pass from teammate
Brooke Roberts up over the opposing keeper. UNH tied the score at 1-1 late in the game, but Berger would strike again, executing a clean tackle outside the circle and winning a one-on-one with the keeper to lift her squad to the 2-1 outcome.
Berger, who totals 13 points, leads the team with seven assists in 2018. This is her second Rookie of the Week nod this year.
