OXFORD, Ohio – The UMass Lowell Hockey team fell at Miami, 2-1 on Saturday night in the series finale at Steve Cady Arena in non-conference play.
The River Hawks drop to 2-2-0 overall with the loss, while the RedHawks improve to 4-2-0 overall in the victory.
"It was a hard fought battle, I thought we might have deserved a point, I thought the guys battled very hard for each other," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "We just couldn't overcome those penalties in the third period."
Derek Daschke gave the RedHawks a 2-1 lead on the power play at the 8:48 mark of the third period, which ended up being the deciding goal in the road contest.
Miami's Ben Lown tied the game at 1-1 just 1:05 into the third period off a rebounded shot from Karch Bachman.
Senior co-captain
Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alta.) opened the scoring in the game for the River Hawks with his second goal of the weekend and third of the season with a wrist shot from the slot at the 14:11 mark of the second frame. It took Wilson 14 games last season to record his third goal of the year for UMass Lowell.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period with both teams registering five shots on goal in the opening stanza.
Senior forwards
Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) and
Nick Master (Broomall, Pa.) both recorded a team-high four shots on goal for the River Hawks in the victory. Sophomore
Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) won a team-high 14 faceoffs (56%) for UMass Lowell.
UMass Lowell junior goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) made his third start of the season, posting 30 saves in the loss, while his counterpart Ryan Larkin stopped 25 shots for the Red Hawks.
