River Hawks Make Trek to Long Island for Stony Brook Matchup

 LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell women's basketball team begins their final road swing of January, beginning with a trip down to Stony Brook for Wednesday night hoops. 

A Win Would...

A Look Back
UMass Lowell pulled within 34-30 in the third quarter, but the Bearcats pulled away for the 74-46 victory. Jennifer Louro (Belmar, N.J.) connected on three triples to pace the offense with 11 points. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) grabbed eight rebounds and Paula Lopez (Leon, Spain) dished out four assists in the effort.

Leading the Flock
The River Hawks are paced by Kayla Gibbs' 12.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Paula Lopez is second on the squad with 9.5 ppg, has leads the squad with 46 assists and 28 steals. Jennifer Louro has 30 three-pointers to anchor the deep ball attack. Gibbs and Angel Agoth (Rochester, Minn.) have registered eight blocks to pace the defense. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 40.2 percent from the field, and 31.9 percent from beyond the arc.

It Can't Happen Again, Can It?
Last time these two teams met, the Seawolves held the River Hawks without a three-pointer, ending UMass Lowell's 264-game streak with at least one triple.

Going National
Entering the weekend, Kayla Gibbs ranks 12th in offensive rebounds per game (4.6), tied for 24th with nine double-doubles and 22nd with a 58.9 field goal percentage.

Scouting Stony Brook
The Seawolves (10-9, 2-4) have won two of their last three conference games, but are coming off a 51-50 loss to New Hampshire. Shania Johnson and Jerell Matthews lead the offense with 14.5 and 14.3 points per game, respectively. Johnson also facilitates the offense with a team-high 97 assists, while Cheyenne Clark is grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game. Stony Brook is connecting on a 41.8 percent clip from the field, and 31.6 percent from three-point range.

Series History
Stony Brooks owns a 10-6 series edge, and has won the last nine meetings. 

Follow the Leader
Heading into the matchup against Binghamton, UMass Lowell led the previous two games for 52:52 and was tied for 3:18. In the first half, the River Hawks were outscoring opponents, 57-45, but were outscored 82-40 in the second half.

Crazy Eights
The eight spot New Hampshire put up in the first quarter was the fewest points UMass Lowell has allowed in the opening frame this season.

Block Party
From 12/31-1/10, Angel Agoth recorded two blocks in three straight games. She is not tired for the team lead with eight rejections.

Full Team Effort
For the third time in Division I, every River Hawk player that entered the Cornell contest scored. The previous two times for UMass Lowell happened against Longwood in 2016-17 and Holy Cross in 2015-16. The River Hawks are 1-2 in these meetings.
