BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Junior forward
Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alta.) scored the game-winning power play goal in overtime for the UMass Lowell Hockey team as they defeated Vermont, 3-2 on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Hockey East play.
UMass Lowell improves its record to 14-10-0 (9-6-0 HEA) with the victory, while Vermont drops to 4-15-4 (1-9-3 HEA) after the loss. The River Hawks have now won eight of their last nine Hockey East games and are currently tied for fourth in the league standings with 18 points.
Freshman forward
Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) got the River Hawks on the board with his fifth of the season at 9:40 of the third frame and classmate
Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) tied the game at 2-2 a little more than three minutes later with a shorthanded tally for UMass Lowell.
The Catamounts scored first in the game on Jake Massie's first collegiate tally at 11:58 of the opening period. Vermont's Liam Coughlin extended the lead to 2-0 with at 11:06 of the second period.
Sophomore goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) made 21 saves in his second win of the season for the River Hawks. Stefanos Lekkas recorded 31 saves in the losing effort for the Catamounts.Â
Junior forward
Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) totaled a game-high five shots on goal for the River Hawks. UMass Lowell was a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill in their 14th victory of the season.
UMass Lowell outshot Vermont, 34-23 in the game, which included a 27-13 shot advantage in the second and third period combined.Â
The River Hawks return to action in the series finale on Saturday, January 20th at Vermont. Game time from Gutterson Fieldhouse is 7 p.m.Â
