LOWELL, Mass. – Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half, but the UMass Lowell women's basketball team fell, 81-42, to Hartford on Wednesday night.
Gibb led the way for the River Hawks (3-12, 0-2), and
Katie McKie (Austin, Texas) matched with career high with 10 points.
The Hawks (11-5, 3-0) had five players reach double-figures, led by Janelle Harrison's 22. Alexia Douglas added 17 in the effort.
After a scoreless opening three minutes, Hartford went on an 11-2 run over the next three minutes and into the media timeout.
Megan Hendrick (Alexandria, Va.) ended the run with a three-pointer out of the break, and McKie converted a conventional three-point play to cut the deficit to 11-8.
The Hawks ended the first half on a 22-3 run, taking a 33-11 advantage into the half. UMass Lowell opened the third quarter with a quick seven points from Hendrick and Gibbs
Both River Hawk players reached double digits in the fourth quarter. UMass Lowell is back in action on January 13 at UMBC.
