SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enter's the weekend with a 3-3 overall mark, after a 2-1 week last week at the Terrier Invitational in Brooklyn, N.Y. The River Hawks earned victories against NJIT (3-2) and Saint Peter's (3-0) on Saturday and fell to Maryland Eastern-Shore (3-1) in the Friday afternoon matchup. Junior outside hitter Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) led the team with 39 kills and 3.25 kills per set, while sophomore outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led he team with a .338 hitting percentage and ranked second on the River Hawks' roster with 33 kills in three matches. Sophomore setter McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) recorded a team-high 74 assists in two starts running the UMass Lowell offense. Freshman middle blocker Ariel Dulaney (Bay Minette, Ala.) totaled a team-leading 14 blocks (1s,13a) over the weekend. 

The River Hawks lead America East with a .161 opponents hitting percentage, while they rank third in America East with a .175 team hitting percentage. UMass Lowell's 1.48 service aces per set is third best among conference squads.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Houston Baptist enters the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, which includes two home wins and two neutral site victories. The Huskies are coming off a 3-0 win on Tuesday night vs. Prairie View A&M at home. Bailey Banks totaled a match-high 16 kills, while Jessica Wooten tallied a match-high 14 digs. Banks leads the team with 64 kills and 3.56 kills per set. Wooten ranks second on the team with 54 kills and leads the team with 71 digs. 

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS: Texas State carries a 4-2 record as they play host in this weekend's Creeds and Crests Classic, playing its first home games of the 2017 season. They own a 2-0 away record and 2-2 record at neutral sites. the Bobcats are coming off a 3-2 win against Sam Houston State on Tuesday. Megan Porter posted a team-high 18 kills, while Amy Pflughaupt registered 12 kills and a match-high 22 digs. Porter leads the team with 79 kills, 3.43 kills per set and 75 digs (3.26 digs per set). 

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: SMU owns a 3-3 record coming into the weekend, after a 3-0 loss to Virginia Tech its most recent match on September 2nd. Lauren Mills posted a team-high 12 kills in the losing effort for the Mustangs. Mills leads the team with 78 kills and 3.55 kills per set. Kendall Patterson quarterbacks the Mustangs' offense with 251 assists (11.41 aps), while Montana Watts' 96 digs and 4.36 digs per set lead the SMU roster. 

VISVARDIS NAMED AE DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Junior co-captain Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) was named Defensive Specialist of the Week by the America East Conference on Wednesday afternoon. Visvardis recorded 34 digs (3.7 digs per set) and four service aces in three matches (2-1 record) for the River Hawks last weekend at the Terrier Invitational in Brooklyn, N.Y. Visvardis helped UMass Lowell hold opponents to a league-best .120 hitting percentage. She posted a season-high 19 digs in the 3-2 win vs. NJIT last Saturday and amassed 18 digs in the 3-1 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday afternoon. She wins the award for the first time this season and the second time in her River Hawk career.

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Madi Bell's .274 hitting percentage ranks fifth best in America East and Katherine Claybaugh's (Danville, Calif.) 2.83 kills per set is also fifth best among league players. Junior setter Delaney Mendez's (Phoenix, Ariz.) 8.57 assists per set is fourth best among AEC setters. Junior co-captain Erica Cappellino (Penfield, N.Y.) leads America East with 0.45 aces per set. Ariel Dulaney's 0.88 blocks per set is tied for the America East lead. Lindsey Visvardis ranks fifth in America East with 3.74 digs per set.
