LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (3-3-3) travels for two road games this week starting with a trip to Stony Brook on Thursday, September 28th before stepping out of conference play to take on Dartmouth on Monday, October 2nd.
 
Last Time Out
The River Hawks dropped a close contest, 2-1, to Hartford on Sunday in their conference opener. Freshman Kristin Birgisdottir (Mofsfellsbaer, Iceland) scored the lone goal for the River Hawks in the loss. The goal from Birgisdottir was the first of her young collegiate career.
 
Leading the Way
Junior captain Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) leads the way offensively for the River Hawks, scoring four goals and tallying nine points, while also leading the way in shots (39) and shots on goal (14). Senior Andrea Morrow (West Boylston, Mass.) has two goals and four points for second on the team while leading the team in game-winning goals with two. Birgisdotter and senior Shannon Groffie (Toms River, N.J.) round out the River Hawks in points with three and one, respectively.
 
Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) leads the way in net for the River Hawks. The captain has played every minute of the season for the squad, stopping 51 shots, garnering a .879 save percentage, and carrying a 0.71 goals-against average. Schneider's goals-against average and save percentage continue to lead the America East.
 
Scouting Stony Brook (4-7, 0-1 AE)
The Seawolves were shutout in their conference opening loss, 1-0, at Maine on Sunday. Keeper Sofia Manner made four saves in the losing effort. Manner also leads the way in net for Stony Brook, stopping 42 shots for a .792 save percentage, and tallying a 1.13 goals-against average. Rachel Florenz leads the way offensively with five goals and 11 points, while Kimmy Chavkin leads the way with three assists. Eight Seawolves have scored a goal this season, while 13 have tallied at least one point.
 
Series History
This will be the fifth time the two squads have meet on the field with Stony Brook carrying a 3-1 record against the River Hawks.
 
Scouting Dartmouth (4-5, 0-1 Ivy)
The Big Green fell 1-0 in their conference opener at Brown in overtime. Keeper Mariel Gordon recorded five saves in the contest. Gordon leads the way for Dartmouth in goal with 38 saves and a .792 save percentage, while carrying a 1.18 goals-against average on the season. Remy Borinsky leads the way in goals with four, while Bianca Ribi leads the way in points (9) and assists (3). Five players have scored a goal for the Big Green, while eight have tallied a point.
 
Series History
This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams with Dartmouth being victorious over the River Hawks the last four meetings.
 
From the Start
The squad held opponents scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play in a record seven-straight games to open the 2017 season. Since making the jump to Division I, the River Hawks have held opponents scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play eight times in each of the last three seasons.
 
Notables
With Birgisdottir's first goal of the season against Hartford in the conference opener, the forward was named America East Rookie of the Week (9/25). The accolade was her first and the squad's first of the season.
 
Birgisdottir was also named the River Hawk of the Week for her efforts Sunday's game against Hartford.
