River Hawks Host BU and Harvard During Holiday Weekend

LOWELL, Mass. – The No. 18 UMass Lowell men's soccer team makes its first two appearances at Cushing Field over the holiday weekend, hosting Boston University (Sept. 1) and Harvard (Sept. 4), as the River Hawks look to earn two wins against regional foes.

River Hawk Rewind
Ivan Blaskic (Zagreb, Croatia) scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute, as the River Hawks defeated CCSU, 2-1, in overtime. The Blue Devils took the lead in the 24th minute, and Richard Mulo (Kisumu, Kenya) notched the equalizer in the 84th minute. Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made two saves in the win.
 
Leading the Flock
Blaskic and Mulo each have a goal apiece, while Dario Jovanovski (Zagreb, Croatia), Jakov Basic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) have recorded assists.
Between the pipes, Kroll has allowed one goal on eight shots, and has recorded two saves with a 0.94 goals against average and .667 save percentage.

And That Was Talking Soccer
The River Hawks enter this weekend's action at No. 14 in the United Coaches Top 25, No. 9 in the TopDrawer Soccer Top 25 and No. 27 in the College Soccer News Top 30.
 
Scouting Boston University
The Terriers (0-2) have been outscored, 7-0, so far in 2017, following losses to Rhode Island (3-0) and Boston College (4-0). Matt McDonnell leads the attack with eight shots, while no one has recorded more than one shot on target. In net, Michael Bernardi has made both starts, with a 3.46 GAA and .600 save percentage.
 
Scouting Harvard
The Crimson open up its season on Sept 1 against Xavier. In 2016, Harvard went 10-3-2 and are returning two of its offensive leaders in Matthew Glass and Christian Sady, who both tallied 11 points. Kyle Parks is back in net after making 15 starts with six shutouts, and posting a 1.22 GAA.

Series History
The Terriers own a 4-1 mark in the all-time series, after knocking off the River Hawks, 1-0, in 2015. Monday's contest marks the first meeting between UMass Lowell and Harvard in men's soccer.

Saving Space in the Records
Kroll now sits third all-time with 27 career wins and in fourth with 17 career blank sheets. With 95:17 of total playing time this season, he sits sixth all-time with 4,607:28 minutes in a River Hawk uniform.
 
Home Sweet Home

The River Hawks went 5-0-2 last season, and have posted a 15-7-3 home record since 2014. Since joining DI, UMass Lowell is 16-10-4 at Cushing Field.

Croatian Connection
All four Croatian players have recorded a point this season, with Blaskic picking up the lone goal after one game. 

Notables
The River Hawks have won three consecutive season openers for the first time since 1999-2002, when UMass Lowell earned victories in four straight.
