VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior Madison Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.) tallied a career-high four RBI on three hits to help lead the UMass Lowell softball team (15-17, 7-3 AE) to a 12-4 victory in five innings at Binghamton (13-19, 5-2 AE) on Sunday.

With the decision, the River Hawks finished the weekend 2-1 against Binghamton to earn their first ever conference series win against the Bearcats.

"Our bats were hot today and we kept the momentum going in our favor the entire game," said Head Coach Danielle Henderson.

Freshman Courtney Cashman (Danvers, Mass.) helped pace the team at the plate with three hits and three RBI of her own. Senior Lauren Ramirez (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) split time in the circle to combine for the win.

The River Hawks wasted no time jumping on Binghamton's starting pitcher in the series finale, as the squad rallied for five runs in their first at-bat. Senior Emily O'Brien (Salem, N.H.) plated the first run of the day with a two-bagger to center that brought in classmate Tori Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.), who had walked in the lead-off spot. Cashman added a two-run triple and junior Vanessa Cooper (Pleasant Gap, Pa.) followed with a RBI double to right center before her headfirst slide beat the throw at the plate for the squad's fifth and final run in the inning.

After Binghamton put just one runner on base through its first two chances, the home team was able cut into the lead in the home half of the third, as a base-clearing triple by Jessica Rutherford and a bunt single by Bridget Hunt made it a one-run game at 5-4.

Another triple, this time a two-run shot from M. Alcorn, gave the River Hawks some breathing room in the fourth. Welch added a RBI single down the left field line in the same inning to make the score, 8-4. The visitors then tallied four more runs in the fifth on three hits, including a solo home run by redshirt-freshman Casey Harding (Cheshire, Conn.) to create the eight-run buffer needed to seal the five-inning victory.

Binghamton still leads the all-time series against UMass Lowell, 9-6. The River Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 18 when they make the short trip to in-state opponent Boston University for a 4 p.m. tilt.
