River Hawks hit road for America East play at UMBC Saturday

UMass Lowell will play its third league game of the season (3:30pm) at UMBC Stadium

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enters the weekend with a 2-8 overall record (0-2 AE), after two losses last week to Providence (11-4) and No. 9 Albany (21-11). The River Hawks have six games left on the 2017 schedule, which includes four road and two home contests at Cushing Field Complex. Juniors Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) and Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) each notched a hat trick in the loss to the Great Danes. Phillips has registered a team-leading 16 goals for the River Hawks this season, as a tri-captain on the team. 

UMass Lowell as a team leads America East with 35 ground balls per game and rank second among conference teams with 7.7 caused turnovers per game. UMass Lowell's 22.10 shots on goal per game ranks third among America East squads. 

SCOUTING UMBC: The Retrievers own a 3-5 overall record to go along with a 1-0 mark in conference play. UMBC owns a 1-1 home record this season and are coming off three straight road games with a 2-1 record in that span. The Retrievers most recent game was a 10-7 loss at Michigan last Saturday. Max Haldeman posted three goals for UMBC in the losing effort. Max Maxwell leads the team with 25 points, to go along with 11 goals and 14 assists. Ruston Souder has started all eight games for UMBC posting a 9.63 GAA and .500 save percentage. 

TYRRELL PACES THE  RIVER HAWK OFFENSE: Junior Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) has started all 10 games at attack for the River Hawks in 2017 and leads the team with 29 points and 17 assists. His 1.7 assists per game ranks fifth among America East players and his 2.9 points per game is just outside the Top 10 leaders in the conference. He has three or more points in six games this season and had tallied four multi-goal games in his junior campaign. 

LARDIERI SAVING THE DAY: Sophomore netminder Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) has started all 10 games for the River Hawks this season and ranks second among America East goalies with 11.10 saves per contest.
