WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Behind a six-run fourth inning, the UMass Lowell (8-6) baseball team picked up its fourth straight win, downing the William & Mary Tribe (9-7), 13-6, on Thursday evening.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fourth with two outs,
Austin Young (Millbury, Mass.) kept the inning alive with a single and
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) doubled. Following
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) drawing a walk to load the bases,
John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) singled up the middle to knot the score at three, then
Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) scored Olive to put the guest back in front at 4-3.

Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) capped the inning with a three-run homer to right pushing the River Hawks' advantage to 7-3.

"It was a good win for the guys," remarked Head Coach
Ken Harring. "This program has had our number the past meetings and it was nice to see the progress to that we've made in the transition. The bottom of the order came up huge today and that with the great start from Xirinachs really set the tone today."

UMass Lowell struck first in the second inning with an Olive RBI single to score
Austin Young after the redshirt-freshman singled and reached second on a Maiola sacrifice bunt. The Tribe picked up three runs in the third off a sacrifice fly and two-run single.

The River Hawks picked up single runs in the sixth and seventh innings off a RBI groundout by
Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) and a double off the bat of Polichetti, respectively, to build a 9-3 buffer.

It didn't take long for William & Mary to respond as the hosts picked up three runs in the seventh on two hits, with two singles providing the runs.

Austin Young started a four-run ninth inning with a one-out solo shot for his team-high fourth hit of the day. Maiola and Polichetti both reached base before
Michael Young sent his first career homer over the wall in right center to extend the lead to 13-6. Both Youngs finished with three runs as well.Â

With the win,
Steve Xirinachs (San Diego, Calif.) picked up his first win of the season, and the bottom third of the order combined for 10 RBI and two home runs. UMass Lowell scored 10 runs with two outs in the contest.

The River Hawks have a quick turnaround and take on the Towson Tigers at 10 a.m. in Norfolk, Va.
