DURHAM, N.H. –
The UMass Lowell (3-26, 0-16) women's basketball team dropped its 2016-17 finale, 58-45, to the New Hampshire Wildcats (24-4, 14-1) on Thursday night.

Megan Hendrick (Alexandria, Va.) led the River Hawks with 10 points, with Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) and Tyshay Britten (Norristown, Pa.) adding nine apiece.

A pair of three from Hendrick and Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) kept the River Hawks even with the Wildcats, 6-6, thru the opening minutes. Hayner connected on a corner jumper and UMass Lowell held a 10-9 advantage at the first media timeout.

The hosts responded with a 6-0 run to take a 15-9 lead, but a Katherine Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind.) buzzer beater brought the River Hawks within 17-14 heading into the second. To start the second frame, Smith cut the deficit to 17-16, and a few minutes later Hayner added a triple to make the score 23-19 New Hampshire with 7:06 left in the first half.

Carlie Pogue's nine points led the Wildcats to a 34-22 lead at the intermission. In her final game in a River Hawk uniform, Hayner led the team with seven points at the half.

Britten scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to spark a 11-0 River Hawk run over the final 4:11 of the contest.

The Wildcats were led by Pogue's 15 and Ashley Storey's 14 points.

Next season the River Hawks will enter their first year of full Division I eligibility after their four-year transition period.
