River Hawks Wrap Up 2016-2017 with Trip to New Hampshire

LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell women's basketball team heads to New Hampshire in the 2017 season finale, to take on the Wildcats at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. 

A Win Would...
-End New Hampshire's three-game streak in the all-time series
-Snap UMass Lowell's 15-game skid 

Last Time Out
Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H) scored a career-high 27 points and tied the program record with seven three-pointers but the River Hawks fell 78-62 to UMBC on Senior Day on February 18.

Leading the Flock
Entering the final game of the season, Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) leads the team with 12.3 points, and is snagging a team-high 8.5 boards per game, with 66 assists through 28 games this season. Tyshay Britten (Norristown, Pa.)has a team-high 16 blocks and Nicole Hayner is connecting on 34.6 on her three-point attempts. UMass Lowell is shooting at a 39.7 percent clip from the field, and connecting on 29.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Scouting New Hampshire
The Wildcats (23-4, 13-1) clinched the top seed in the America East tournament with their 62-57 win at Hartford on Feb. 18. Four players are averaging double figures, led by Carlie Pogue's 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. As a unit, New Hampshire is shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three-point range.

Hayner's Hayday
On Senior Day, Nicole Hayner set two career highs, scoring 27 points and connecting on seven three pointers. The seven triples tied the program's all-time mark for threes in a single game, and set the DI program mark. 

Shooters Shoot
In the loss against Hartford, the River Hawks set a season high, shooting 53.1 percent from the field.

Shooting 45s
UMass Lowell' s offense has finished three games shooting above 45 percent from the field and from beyond the arc, recording 53.1 percent and 46.7 percent, respectively, against Hartford the last time. The River Hawks are 3-4 in the DI era while putting up those numbers in a single game, with two wins coming against America East foe Vermont.

Streaking Til 19 
Kayla Gibbs saw her double figure scoring streak snapped at 19 games, setting a DI program high mark. Last season, Lindsey Doucette accomplished the feat in 16 straight contests. 

Party of Five
In the loss at UMBC, the River Hawks had five or more players in double figures for the first time all season. It was only the second time in Division I UMass Lowell accomplished the feat, and first time since 2014 against Mt. Ida.

Conference Board Meeting
Through 15 games of conference play, Kayla Gibbs ranks atop the America East in all three rebounding categories. The junior is grabbing 9.8 boards per game, leading the conference with 3.1 offensive boards per game and 6.7 defensive. Gibbs' 18-rebound performance against Binghamton is the best single-game mark in the conference this season.

50 Times 6
For only the sixth time in the Division I era, the River Hawks grabbed over 50 rebounds, snagging 51 in the loss against Binghamton. The single-game high since 2013 is 57, set on January 18, 2015.

Do You Even Bench?
Through 28 games, the River Hawks' reserves have scored 458 points and have outscored the opponents' bench nine times, with a season-high 29 against Keene State. Last season the River Hawks' bench scored 341 points, and outscored opponents 12 times. 

Starting Fresh
The River Hawks have used eight different starting lineups through 28 games this season.

Notables
Hayner and Hendrick swept the America East Weekly Awards, being named Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively (12.19).
