PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. –
The UMass Lowell (0-3) baseball team dropped a pair of contests to the UConn Huskies (3-0), 7-3 and 7-1, on Saturday at Tradition Field.

Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) led off game one with a solo shot on the fourth pitch he saw to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies responded in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead, and extended their buffer in fifth to 5-1 on a wild pitch and a two-run single.

Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit his second homer in as many games to bring UMass Lowell back within three in the sixth. Austin Young (Millbury, Mass.) drove in the River Hawk's third run of the afternoon with a single in the seventh.

Luke Tomczyk (Chili, N.Y.) stuck out three in his UMass Lowell debut, while the trio of Sharpe, Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) and John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) had two hits apiece.

In game two, the Huskies opened a 4-0 lead after five innings, before Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) got UMass Lowell on the board with a single down the left field line to score Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.), who walked and stole third after a balk.

UConn's Anthony Prato went 2-for-4 on the day with four runs and three RBI, and Isaac Feldstein drove in three in game two.

The teams will wrap up their four-game series with an 11 a.m. first pitch on Sunday morning.
