River Hawks Head to Garden State for Two to Wrap Up Road Swing

LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell women's basketball team enters its final two games of the four-game road swing, with two games in New Jersey over the weekend.

A Look Back
UMass Lowell trimmed an 18-point halftime deficit to eight points with 5:34 left in the third, but Colgate responded with an 11-0 run to regain momentum in the Raiders' 84-64 win on December 2. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) recorded her fifth straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. The trio of Jennifer Louro (Belmar, N.J.), Megan Hendrick (Alexandria, Va.) and Oda Shackelford (Edinburgh, Ind.) all chipped in 10 points apiece.

Leading the Flock
The River Hawks are paced by Kayla Gibbs' 15.4 points and  Paula Lopez's (Leon, Spain) 11.6 points per game. Gibbs is also averaging 10.9 rebounds following five straight double-doubles, while Lopez has recorded 19 assists and 13 steals. Jennifer Louro leads the team with her 12 three-point field goals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 42.8 percent from the field, and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Homecoming
Two River Hawks will have plenty of family and friends in attendance as Jennifer Louro and Kayla Gibbs call New Jersey home. Gibbs is averaging 13.3 points per game and 5.3 rebounds, with six assists, five steals and three blocks against FDU in her career.

1K Watch
Gibbs enters the two games with 960 career points, as she looks to become the first player to score 1,000 points in Division I for the River Hawks.

Scouting Saint Peter's
The Peacocks (3-4) welcome the River Hawks on a two-game losing streak, following a 64-49 setback against St. Francis Brooklyn back on November 30. Talah Hughes paces the squad with 10.1 points and 1.4 blocks per game, with 2.0 steals. Sajanna Bethea is grabbing 7.7 boards, while the duo of D'Aviyon Magazine and Sammy Lochner are helping the effort with 2.3 assists per contest. Saint Peter's is connecting on 37.0 percent from the field, and 32.5 percent from three-point range.

Scouting FDU
The Knights (5-2) host Monmouth on Wednesday night before entertaining UMass Lowell on Saturday. FDU has a trio of players averaging double-figures, led by Madelynn Comly's 12.4 points per game. Amina Markovic and Lauren Francillon are scoring 11.4 and 10.7 points, respectively, while also leading the team in rebounds with Francillon's 7.7 and Markovic's 6.3 boards per game. Natalie Zamora paces the Knights with 3.9 assists per contest and 13 total steals. As a unit, FDU is shooting at a 42.7 percent clip from the field, and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Series History
This marks the first matchup between the River Hawks and Saint Peter's, while UMass Lowell is 3-0 all-time against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson.

Racing to 70
In Coach Harris' four seasons her team is 15-4 when the River Hawks score 70 or more points. 

Career Night
In the game against Fisher on November 27, four River Hawks set career highs in points led by Jennifer Louro's 18 and Cierra Stanciel's 15. Both Angel Agoth (Rochester, Minn.) and Katie McKie (Austin, Texas) chipped in 10, while Agoth set a personal best with 13 rebounds, as well.

Spilling into the Paint
In the win against Fisher College, the River Hawks set a DI program record with 62 points in the paint. Harris' squad has now recorded 50 or more points in the paint in two of its last three games.

Boards Galor
UMass Lowell also grabbed 61 rebounds against the Falcons to set a DI program as well. The all-time record is 70 boards against Bryant in 1991.

Louro's Longball
The freshman she paces the offense with 12 three-pointers.

O/U 20
After not having a 20-point scorer in 22 straight games, the River Hawks have had two in the last three games.

Party of Five
The win against Fisher College marked the third time since joining Division I, the River Hawks had five or more players in double figures. The other two times were January 22, 2017 at UMBC, and in 2014 against Mt. Ida.

Notables
Lopez has been named the America East Rookie of the Week in back-to-back weeks (11.13, 11.20).
