HANOVER, N.H. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (3-5-3) fell 2-0 at Dartmouth (5-6-0) in their final non-conference matchup of the regular season. The River Hawks implemented a brand new starting eleven versus the Big Green.
"We were able to rest a lot of players and give some kids a chance to play who we haven't seen yet this year," said UMass Lowell Women's Soccer Head Coach
Francesco D'Agostino. "It was good to learn more about us and our depth. Overall, we didn't create anything good offensively, so it was going to be hard to score. However, we could have been more stout defensively and not given up an easy goal."
The Big Green got on the board first with a shot off a corner kick from Bonnie Shea. Less than 10 minutes later, the Big Green would score again off a shot inside the box from Remy Borinsky.
The River Hawks were unable to get a shot off in the first 45 minutes of play.
The visiting squad came out in the second strong, not allowing a goal in the final 45 minutes.
Senior
Laura Gagnon (Millville, Mass.) registered the first shot on goal of the game for the River Hawks. A free kick on the far side of the post and about five yards outside of the box, putting the shot on goal, but the Big Green keeper was there to make the save.
The Big Green held an advantage in shots (11-1) and corners (7-0), while sophomore keeper
Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) stopped four shots in her River Hawk debut compared to one for Mariel Gordon.
The River Hawks return to action on Thursday, October 5 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup versus Vermont at Cushing Field.
