LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell field hockey team continues America East Conference play this week, visiting Vermont on Friday, October 13 for a 3 p.m. tilt before welcoming No. 20 UAlbany to Wicked Blue Field on Alumni Day, Sunday October 15, for a matchup set to begin at 2 p.m.

River Hawk Rewind
UMass Lowell owns a 7-7 overall record so far in 2017, including a 1-2 mark in America East action after splitting a pair of games last week. The team first battled into overtime against league rival New Hampshire, falling just short, 2-1, on Oct. 6. The River Hawks bounced back, though, with a 2-1 victory in their final non-conference game of the season against Sacred Heart on Oct. 8. Freshman Sophie Gehrels (Zeist, Utrecht, Netherlands) tallied both scores in that decision against the Pioneers, while classmate Clara Defourt (Brussels, Belgium) picked up both assists.

Leading the Flock
Through 14 games, Anouk Lalande (Brussels, Belgium) paces the River Hawks with 10 goals and 22 points. Junior Torrie Huk (Milford, Del.) and Sophie Gehrels follow closely with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Senior Christa Doiron (Worcester, Mass.), who adds 10 points, has notched a team-best six assists. Sophomore Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) owns a 6-7 record in the cage, totaling 92 saves for a .773 save percentage.

Alumni Day
UMass Lowell hosts its annual Alumni Day on Oct. 15 in conjunction with the 2 p.m. tilt against UAlbany. The day's events will kick off with a pre-game tailgate at Wicked Blue at 1 p.m. There will then be a special halftime recognition to honor the program's 2005 and 2010 National Championship teams. Immediately following the River Hawks' game, all those returning are invited to take part in an alumni game on the turf.

Scouting Vermont
The Catamounts, who are looking to snap a four-game skid, sit at 4-8 overall this season and 0-3 in America East play. Most recently, Vermont faced a setback in conference action in its lone outing last week, falling, 4-0, at Maine. Landon Warren is leading the Wildcats with 10 goals and 20 total points. Carla Godsman, who adds six points, paces the squad with four assists so far. Goalkeeper Lena Benwood boasts 68 saves with a .708 save percentage in 2017, as well.

Scouting No. 20 UAlbany
The Great Danes, who are ranked 20th in the nation, are currently 8-5 overall and 3-1 in America East games heading into this weekend's action. The team is on a four-game win streak, as their last loss came on Sept. 29 against UMass Lowell in double overtime. In their last two outings, UAlbany defeated Fairfield, 8-2, on Oct. 8 and Sacred Heart, 3-0, on Oct. 11. Katie MacCallum totals a team-high nine goals and 22 points, while Ghislaine Beerkens follows with 13 points. Dana Bozek is first on the squad with five assists in 2017. Melissa Nealon has made all 13 starts in the cage, totaling 75 saves.

Series History
The River Hawks and Catamounts will be meeting for the 17th time on Friday, as UVM owns an 11-4-1 lead in the all-time series. UMass Lowell earned its first win ever against the Great Danes earlier this season on Sept. 29, although UAlbany still leads that all-time series, 10-1.

Around the League
The River Hawks are currently fourth in the East Division standings. The team is also ranked second overall in the league for shots (189), in addition to leading the America East with 103 saves and 86 corners so far. Individually, Torrie Huk is second in the America East for shots (47), and Anouk Lalande is second for goals (10) and points (22).

Three Cheers
The River Hawks picked up three consecutive overtime wins for the first time in program history from Sept. 1-8. All of the decisions ended in a 2-1 score, as the team defeated both Miami (Ohio) and Ball State in a single extra period before outlasting Georgetown in a hard-fought outing that went to a sudden-death shootout. The Georgetown match marked the first time the River Hawks have gone to a shootout since 2011.

Over and Over and Over Again
UMass Lowell has now battled its opponents into overtime during six games in 2017, coming out on top in four of those contests. This marks the most overtime games in a season since 1990.
