LOWELL, Mass. -- UMass Lowell Hockey Head Coach Norm Bazin announced today that senior defenseman Tyler Mueller (Regina, Sask.) will serve as Captain of the River Hawks for the 2017-18 campaign.

Senior defenseman Chris Forney (Thief River Falls, Minn.) and sophomore forward Ryan Lohin (Chadds Ford, Pa.) will serve as alternate captains for UMass Lowell, while senior forward John Edwardh (Calgary, Alta.) and junior forward Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alta.) will also wear the "A" during road games throughout the season for the River Hawks. 

Mueller served as an alternate captain along with Joe Gambardella last season and Michael Kapla, who served as captain of the 2016-17 squad.

"Our leadership group is strong and deep," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "The leadership group is battle tested and will be instrumental in mentoring a young group who learns to play the Lowell way."

Mueller appeared in 39 of 41 games last season for the River Hawks, recording nine points (2g,7a) with a 17 rating. Forney tallied a career-high 15 points (4g,11a) with a 15 rating in 38 contests, while Lohin amassed a 29-point (12g,17a) freshman campaign as the only River Hawk rookie to play in all 41 games last season. 

Edwardh, who returns as the River Hawks' leading scorer, tallied a career-high 39 points and 19 goals with a 21 rating in his junior season. Wilson played in 39 games and registered 14 points and six goals. 

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, October 14th against Omaha in non-conference play. Game time is 7:15 p.m. from the Tsongas Center on Homecoming Weekend.

Tickets for all River Hawks home hockey games are on sale now. UMass Lowell students receive free admission by scanning their ID as part of the "River Hawk Rewards" campaign.
