LOWELL, Mass. -- Sophomore outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) recorded a team-high 14 kills to go along with eight digs for the UMass Lowell Volleyball team in the 3-1 loss to Albany on Friday night at University Gym. The set scores were 18-25, 25-17, 14-25 and 20-25.Â
With the loss, UMass Lowell drops to 5-11 overall (0-2 AE), while the Great Danes improve to 8-6 and 2-0 in America East play.
Claybaugh also hit for a team-best .321 hitting percentage in the losing effort. Senior middle blocker
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) also chipped in with seven kills, a .294 hitting percentage and five total blocks.
"Although tonight's match did not result in a win, we did a lot of great things as a team and I am happy with the progress we made this week," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "The players showed a lot of passion and effort, and we will need this as we move our focus to Binghamton."
Sophomore setter
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced the River Hawks' offense with 20 assists, while senior
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) also added 16 helpers.
Sophomore libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) managed 24 digs on the night in another strong defensive effort.
The River Hawks finished the fourth set with a match-high 14 kills and opened the match with a .194 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
UMass Lowell returns to the court for America East action on Sunday, Oct. 2nd at Binghamton. Match time from West Gym is 1 p.m.
