BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Freshman outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) notched a match-high 19 kills in the 3-2 loss against Binghamton on Sunday at West Gym in America East play. The set scores were 13-25, 25-18, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-10.
With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in America East matches, while Binghamton improves to 8-8 and 2-1 in AE play.
"I am really proud of the passion and fight that our team showed today," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "Of course we wanted a different outcome, but we need to keep trusting in each other and in the process, because we are getting closer and closer to our goals every week."
Claybaugh also added a .229 hitting percentage, 12 digs and three service aces in the losing effort for the River Hawks. Sophomore outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) and
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) tallied 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) added eight kills, a match-high .368 hitting percentage and 10 total blocks.
Sophomore libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) notched her third straight 20-dig performance with 22 digs in another solid defensive performance for the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell totaled 17 kills in set two and three, while hitting .353 hitting percentage in the third frame.
The River Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 5th at Bryant. Game time from Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, R.I. is 7 p.m.
