LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team is back in action with two games this weekend. The squad makes its first appearance under the lights in 2016 when Hofstra comes to Wicked Blue Field on Friday, September 23. The River Hawks then travel to Providence for a Sunday matinee on Sept. 25.

Looking at UMass Lowell
UMass Lowell improved to 3-3 in 2016 after earning a pair of wins last week. The River Hawks defeated Siena, 5-2, in a neutral-site contest in Albany on Sept. 16 before closing out the weekend with an impressive, 9-2 victory against Saint Louis on Sept. 18. So far in 2016, freshman

Scouting Hofstra
The Pride, who is currently 4-4, has won its two most recent outings. The squad first picked up a 5-1 win against Ryder on Sept. 17 before downing Lafayette, 4-1, on Sept. 19. Claudia Marin Samper leads the team with seven goals, seven assists and 21 total points. Stella Schoen follows closely with 16 points. Lauren Saltus and Carys Swan have each started four games at goalkeeper, recording 31 and 27 saves, respectively.

Scouting Providence
The Friars boast a 6-2 mark so far in 2016, including three straight wins in their most recent contests. Providence battled to a 1-0 victory at Lehigh on Sept. 18 and will host Villanova on Sept. 23 before welcoming the River Hawks to campus. Through eight games, Adrienne Houle has tallied a team-best six goals and 13 points. Emily Humiston has registered three assists so far to lead the squad in that category. Goalkeeper Megan Guilbert, who has played every minute in the cage this year, totals 33 saves with a .717 save percentage. Â

Series History
UMass Lowell will look to pick up its first win ever against Hofstra on Friday, as the Pride own a 5-0-1 advantage in the all-time series. When the squads last met, the Pride held on to take a 3-2 decision in 2015. In the Providence series, although the Friars are ahead, 5-1-1 all-time, the River Hawks earned a 3-2 victory last year.

This season, the River Hawks are fourth in the AE East Division standings. As a team, UMass Lowell sits third in the rankings with a 3.49 scoring average and 22 goals scored. The squad is also ranked second with 7.83 saves per game. Individually,
Anouk Lalande is tied for second with six goals and tied for fourth with 15 points.
Eva Berkhout (5.25) and
Kelsey Federico (5.20) sit third and fourth, respectively, on the saves per game list.

Tip of the Hat
The River Hawks saw hat tricks in back-to-back games last week, as
Torrie Huk tallied a trio of goals vs. Siena (9.16) and
Anouk Lalande scored four, including the first three of the game, against Saint Louis (9.18). These marked the first hat tricks for UMass Lowell since Bianca Jones led the squad to a 3-2, overtime win against UC Davis in 2014.

The River Hawks' offensive output has been a real team effort this year, with 16 assists on 22 goals so far in 2016. That means 73 percent of the squad's goals have been assisted this season. Junior

Making History
The River Hawks set two Division I program records with their 9-2 win against Saint Louis on Sept. 18. The performance marked the most goals in a game and the largest margin of victory for the team since a 2012 contest against Franklin Pierce (9-1).
