COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (2-4-2) fell, 2-0, at Air Force on Sunday afternoon.

"Today is a disappointing loss," said Head Coach Joel Bancroft. "We left too many opportunities in the attacking third to be successful. As a group, we have to learn to attack with the same intensity and commitment as we routinely see when we defend. This trip was an affirmation for our program that we can play with these programs and that we need to grow to ultimately get results against them. Trips like this accelerate our growth and is very worthwhile. We now set our sites to our preparation for Albany. "

The River Hawks pressured early, as they posted the first two shots of the match. Air Force followed with four consecutive opportunities, causing goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) to make two early saves.

The River Hawks placed three of their six shots on goals in the first period of action, including a half-best two shots by midfielder Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H). The two teams earned three corners a piece, but failed to seize any opportunities as the two teams entered half time knotted 0-0.

Coming out of halftime, Air Force kept the ball in its attacking zone, tallying the three of the four first shots in the second.

The Falcons opening the scoring just five minutes into the second half when Kaitlyn Cook one timed a pass into the back of the net from 15 yards out. Brooke Rittman send a through ball to Cook who netted the eventual game winner in the 51st minute.

The River Hawks saw two corner opportunities spoiled by a tough Falcons defense that prevented UMass Lowell from getting a shot off.

With six minutes remaining in regulation, Air Force tacked on an insurance goal, thanks to Taylor Cobb who recorded her second goal of the season.

Schneider finished the contest with four saves, while her counterpart racked up nine to help secure the home teams win.

Morrier, forward Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) and midfielder Courtney Coleman (Antioch, Ill.) paced all River Hawks with with two shots on goal apiece.

UMass Lowell is back in action at home on Sunday, September 25, as the squad is set to entertain UAlbany for the team's conference opener.
