LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to SIU-Edwardsville (3-1) and Bowling Green (3-0) on Friday afternoon in the opening day of the UIC Tournament at the Flames Athletic Center.
The set scores in the early match vs. the Cougars were 14-25, 12-25, 25-21 and 12-15. In the late match vs. the Falcons, the set scores were 10-25, 15-25 and 11-25.
With the losses, UMass Lowell drops to 5-8 on the season, while BGSU improves to 8-3 and SIUE upped its record to 6-3.
Sophomore
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) led the way in the tournament opener with a match-high 11 kills and a .233 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled 19 digs in another solid defensive effort.
In the late match vs. Bowling Green, freshman
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) chipped in with four kills.
The River Hawks return to action the final day of play in the UIC Invitational with an 11am match against host Illinois-Chicago at the Flames Athletic Center. The match will be televised live on ESPN3.
