LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell to Northeastern (3-0) on Tuesday night at Costello Athletic Center in non-league action. The set scores were 27-25, 25-12 and 25-14.
The loss drops UMass Lowell to 5-6 overall on the season, while the Huskies improve to 7-4 overall. Northeastern now owns a 2-0 all-time record vs. the River Hawks in the all-time series.
Sophomore outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) totaled a team-high nine kills and five digs, while junior
Masha Yelsukova (St. Petersburg, Russia) amassed eight kills to go along with a team-high .400 hitting percentage in the losing effort for the River Hawks.
Sophomore setter
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) ran the UMass Lowell offense for the majority of the night and tallied 24 assists. Sophomore libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) notched 15 digs on the might, which marked her seventh consecutive match with 10 digs.
UMass Lowell registered a match-high 12 kills in the opening set.
The River Hawks return to action on Friday, September 16th at the Illinois-Chicago Invitational with a 1pm match vs. SIU-Edwardsville and a 4:30pm contest against Bowling Green. The team is back in action at home on Saturday, September 24th against Hartford in the America East opener. Match time from Costello Athletic Center is 7 p.m.
