LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff raised more than $8,850 during the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Ninth Annual "Bowling for IMPACT" event at the Brunswick Zone in Lowell.
Â
"I think this year's event was an amazing success," said SAAC advisor Michael Anderson. Â "First, we had an unbelievable turnout from our student-athletes, athletic staff and Team IMPACT with well over 300 people in attendance. The donations we received will surpass the amount we raised last year. All of the proceeds will go directly back to Team IMPACT. It was also great to have our Team IMPACT students bowling with our student-athletes, and a win-win situation for everyone involved."
Â
All 18 of UMass Lowell's athletic teams were in attendance, as well nine Team IMPACT players, who were able to partake in the raffles and bowling fun.
Â
The UMass Lowell field hockey team raised the most money of all teams represented, bringing in over $1,200, while Georgia Cowderoy (Ashmore, Queensland, Australia) of the field hockey team, brought in the most money as an individual.
Â
For a second consecutive year, the men's track and field team took home the bowling title with the highest two-game average of 144. The squad's Drew Fossa was crowned the best individual performence, after bowling an event-high 195.
Â
"This event demonstrates the great partnership we (UMass Lowell Athletics) have with the Team IMPACT organization. We look forward to having this event next year and hopefully raising even more," explained Anderson.
Â
Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, and Play Against Challenges Together) is a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses.Â
