LOWELL, Mass. – Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit his first career home run, but it was not enough as the UMass Lowell (17-27) baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt against the Northeastern Huskies (26-21), 7-2, Tuesday night.

ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂOlive launched Tyler Robinson's 3-2 pitch into the night over the right field wall to trim the Huskies' lead to 6-2, in the bottom of the seventh.

"We lost to a good ball club tonight," said Head Coach
Ken Harring. "They just played better than us and got big hits when they needed them."

The River Hawks took an early 1-0 lead when
Mark Tumosa (Willington, Conn.) drove home Olive in the bottom of the second. Olive recorded the first hit in the ballgame with a double of the wall in right.

The Huskies responded with a four-run third, capped off by a two-run double from Perry, to take a 4-1 advantage. Northeastern added a pair in the fourth open up a 6-1 buffer.

Dan Cunico (Sandyston, N.J.) pitched three scoreless innings in the middle of the contest, allowing two hits and striking out a career-high four batters. Olive led the River Hawks' offense with two hits and two runs.

For the visitors, Andrew Misiaszek allowed one run in six innings, with four strikeouts, to earn the win. Pat Madigan and Zach Perry each drove in two runs, while Charlie McConnell scored twice and added two hits.

UMass Lowell is back in action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Massachusetts in the first meeting between the two programs. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at LeLacheur Park.
