LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell softball team (5-26, 0-6 AE) returns to action this weekend after having a mid-week tilt against Boston College postponed until April 28 due to unplayable field conditions. The River Hawks will visit Maine for a three-game, America East Conference series on Friday-Saturday, April 8-9.

RIVER HAWK RECAP
UMass Lowell, who owns a 5-26 overall record and a 0-6 mark in league play, snapped a 12-game skid when the squad split a pair of decisions at Sacred Heart last week. The River Hawks took game one, 2-0, before dropping game two, 3-1, on March 30. UMass Lowell then played its first America East road series of the season at UAlbany, although the Great Danes swept the three games on April 1-2. At the plate, freshman Sydney Barker (Upland, Calif.) helped the River Hawks to the shutout win at SHU, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Sophomore Kate Mims (West Chester, Pa.) picked up the squad's other RBI to add to the effort. Rookie pitcher Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) recorded her second shutout of the year with her complete-game performance and tied a personal best with six strikeouts, as well.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through 31 games this year, junior Tori Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.) leads the River Hawks with a .367 batting average, 33 hits, 18 runs, 17 walks and 14 stolen bases. Junior Alisha Welch (Langley, British Columbia), who is hitting .326, is first on the team with 17 RBI, while sophomore Samantha McQueen (Ewing, N.J.) adds 10 RBI and a team-high six doubles. In the circle, freshman Sydney Wash (Suffolk, Va.) leads the squad's pitching staff with a 2.58 ERA, 37 strikeouts and two wins.

SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College enters Wednesday's contest at 19-13 overall. The Eagles most recently defeated Boston University, 5-4, on March 30 before having a three-game conference series with Virginia cancelled on April 2-3. So far this season, Jessie Daulton leads the team with a .326 batting average and 30 hits. Tatiana Cortez, who is batting .305, and Jordan Chimento, who follows closely with a .303 average, are tied for the team lead with 22 RBI apiece. Cortez is also first on the squad with nine home runs. Jessica Dreswick (2.28 ERA) and Allyson Frei (2.91) have split time in the circle, although Frei boasts 105 strikeouts and 11 wins.

SCOUTING MAINE
Maine sits right at .500 overall with a 22-22 record in 2016. The Black Bears are just 1-1 so far in America East games, falling to Stony Brook, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader before bouncing back with a 6-2 win on April 2. Janelle Bouchard ranks first on the team with a .402 average and 33 hits. Alyssa Derrick has totaled team highs for home runs (6) and RBI (25), while Erika Leonard has scored a team-best 19 runs. Molly Flowers leads the team's pitchers with a .264 ERA, 80 strikeouts and a 7-6 record.

THE LAST TIME
The River Hawks were supposed to square off against Boston College last season, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather. UMass Lowell does, however, lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 3-0. UMass Lowell and Maine have met seven times in the sport of softball, as the Black Bears own a 5-2 advantage after sweeping a three-game series in 2015.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
The River Hawks currently sit seventh in the America East standings. Binghamton leads the league with a 19-9 overall mark and a 6-0 start in conference action. As a team, UMass Lowell is second in the conference with 770 at-bats and fourth with a 4.22 ERA. Individually, Tori Alcorn ranks first in the America East for walks (17), second for stolen bases (14) and third for on-base percentage (.482). Sydney Wash is second in the standings with a 2.58 ERA.

GOING STREAKING
Both Samantha McQueen and Brianna West turned in six-game streaks earlier this year, good for the team's longest hitting stretches of the season.
