LOWELL, Mass. --Â For the second consecutive year, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team gave back to the local community by going to classrooms at the Moody Elemnetatry School and read to numerous students.Â
The River Hawks went into eight classes this year, as the team and school started the partnership last year in April, and both are proud to continue the relationship.Â
"This was a positive experience for both sides, as everyone was able to learn from the other group," said Head Coach Christian Figueroa. "We are honored to have been invited back by the Moody School. It's a great opportunity for our guys to give back to the community, but more importantly, to be given the chance to have a positive impact on the lives of so many young children."
"Reading and interacting with the kids at Moody Elementary was rewarding for the team," remarked Sophomore Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.). "Seeing how excited they were to see us and ask questions was humbling. It reminded me of when I was in elementary school looking up to older athletes and we hope we can get to do more events like this in the future."
One class got a special surprise and got to be a part of the popular "Running Man Challenge" with the River Hawks. The video can be found here.
The program is getting ready for its fourth season in Division I and America East, and the 2016 schedule will be released in the next few months.Â
