LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell (17-20) baseball team couldn't complete the late-inning comeback, and fell to the Harvard Crimson (16-21), 9-4, Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park.

"It's tough to start a game like that," said Head Coach Ken Harring. "Harvard pushed a couple balls through in the first inning, but Ricky did a good job getting out of that. A couple walks in the second got us in trouble, and it's hard to recover from being down 5-0. Our offense is fighting it a little bit right now, and when they start to figure it we'll take off."

The Crimson jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings, putting up four in the top half of the frame. The damage came on five hits coupled with a pair of walks.

Zack Tower (Auburn, Mass.) drove in the first River Hawk run on the night with a single in the second, scoring Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) who singled to lead off.

Harvard tacked on two more on a double and single following a walk in the top half of the fourth.

In the seventh inning, UMass Lowell cut the deficit to 7-4 with three runs on RBI singles from Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.), Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) and Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.).

Following Tyler Noe's (Lynnfield, Mass.) one-out walk the River Hawks delivered four consecutive singles, including Ian Strom's (Hopedale, Mass.) to move Noe to third. Marchena scored Noe and Consolmagno's single scored Marchena. A dropped foul ball continued Passatempo's at bat, and he capitalized to score Consolmagno.

The Crimson regained its five-run buffer with a pair in the top of ninth to close out the win for Dylan Combs. T.J. Laurisch pitched two innings to pick up the save.

UMass Lowell's Matt Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) made his collegiate debut, pitching two innings of scoreless ball with one strikeout.
